Eliminating Hard Returns

Hard Returns in prose are the bane of electronic submissions.

Internet publishing allows the reader's internet browser to customize the screen resolution, window size, etc. Using hard returns inhibits the reader's ability to use a configuration that is not identical to the author's settings. Modern standards of electronic publication produce content usable on any internet device.

Allow your text editor, word-processor, or mailer to wrap the text unhindered. Poetry, of course, may use hard returns.

The following story submission uses hard returns.

The writer has ended each line by hitting the [ENTER] or carriage return key on the keyboard.

Conversely, the following story submission wraps properly.

The writer has allowed the word processor or text editor to wrap the same text on its own.
